Our History
The Poor Clares are a contemplative order founded 800 years ago by St Clare of Assisi, under the inspiration and guidance of St Francis. We are known as the Second Order of St. Francis and our houses can be found in every continent in the world, except Antarctica!
Our life is still based on the rule which St. Clare wrote for herself and her sisters, the first to be written by a woman for women which was officially approved by the Pope.
