Poor Clares of Lynton

Hospitality

There are many different forms which hospitality can take but for us one of the most important could be called the hospitality of the heart. Many people come to us either in person or more often by letter, phone or e-mail asking for help, a listening ear and our prayers. In this way we support people both in the small community in which we live and others scattered over the country and indeed all over the world.

Others come, of course, in person to our parlour where we are glad to welcome them as individuals or sometimes in groups, whether families and friends, children preparing for their first communion, members of the secular Franciscan order, other catholic or non catholic groups, or local people coming for our annual sale.

Our parlour is small but at times the walls have to be stretched to allow us to welcome all who wish to come. especially at those times when the members of Lee Abbey, the local ecumenical conference centre arrive – all 60 of them! Sometimes a visit will end with Vespers said in common. It is always a joy for us to be able to share our prayer with others whether as individuals or in groups, whether catholic or non catholic hospitality in all its forms is a gift in which we too are enriched equally with those we welcome.
